The Protex® range covers everything from lightweight 2-mil film for window protection through to heavy-duty 20-mil latex-saturated paper for wing walks and exterior skin protection. Products are available in paper and film substrates with natural rubber, acrylic, and acrylic latex adhesive systems tailored to specific applications.
Sharpline® — Stencil & Masking Tapes
Die-cut spray mask stencils and precision masking surfaces
Sharpline® products are latex-saturated paper tapes designed for die-cut or hand-cut spray mask stencils. Used for precision masking in aerospace painting and coating operations. Provides clean, accurate mask edges for complex paint schemes and two-tone operations.

Protex® 5 — Printed Paper Protection
4–5 mil latex-saturated paper printed in red ink with the warning: "SCRATCHES CAUSE REJECTIONS — HANDLE WITH CARE." The primary protection tape for exterior aluminum skins in the aircraft industry, as well as titanium, stainless steel, and painted surfaces. The printed warning keeps shop floor personnel aware that the covered surface is a critical finish-quality component. Also used in electronic component manufacturing. Boeing BAC 5034 qualified.

Protex® 10V — Paper with Vinyl Coating
10 mil latex-saturated paper with a vinyl coating on one side to improve abrasion resistance. Used for aircraft window protection where light transmission is not required. Also used on acrylic and polycarbonate windows, canopies, windshields, bare metal, and painted surfaces where added abrasion resistance is needed. Vinyl coating significantly extends service life under manufacturing contact conditions.

Protex® 20V — "Heavy Duty Elephant Hide"
20 mil latex-saturated paper with an external vinyl coating — the most robust paper protection tape in the Protex® range. Used for heavy-duty protection of acrylic windows, canopies, windshields, and certain metal and painted surfaces requiring very high abrasion resistance. Also used to protect wood interiors of high-quality business jets during manufacturing. The 20 mil thickness and vinyl coating earn it the "Elephant Hide" nickname in the industry.

Protex® 20VS — Vinyl-Coated, Non-Blocking
20 mil latex-saturated paper with vinyl coating on one side. Key feature: non-blocking adhesive — if the adhesive side comes into contact with itself (e.g. paper is folded), the two surfaces can be pulled apart without the adhesive being pulled off either side. Eliminates disposal of product damaged by accidental contact. Used on acrylic windows, canopies, windshields, bare metals, and painted surfaces. Not for fly-away applications.

Protex® 20S — Heavy-Duty Wing Walk & Skin Protection
20 mil latex-saturated paper for the most demanding aerospace surface protection applications. Used for Tedlar® interior protection in ceiling areas and overhead storage compartments, and exterior skin protection where heavy-duty protection is required. Protects graphite composite surfaces from impact damage that could cause interlayer fracturing. Withstands 60 lbs of sandblasting pressure for decorative applications. Protex® 8216-2 — Polyester Protective Film (BAC 5034)
2 mil clear polyester film for surface protection of metals — especially polished aluminum. Performs well during stretch forming, drilling, routing, and shearing operations. Protects through heat aging and degreasing through clean-line or alodining processes. The film can remain on metal through vapor degreasing and solvent cleaning with MEK, trichloroethylene, toluene, denatured alcohol, and IPA with no adverse effect. Adhesive withstands 2 hours at 350°F. Capable of withstanding outdoor exposure. Widely used on aircraft skins in metal fabricating operations as a direct 3M 8403 alternative. Boeing BAC 5034 qualified.

Protex® 55 — Decal Pre-Spacing & Application Tape
4–5 mil latex-saturated paper designed specifically as a decal pre-spacing and application tape. Used to transfer and apply aircraft decals, stencils, and markings precisely to the aircraft surface. The controlled adhesion allows the tape to hold the decal in correct position during application and then release cleanly, leaving the decal accurately placed without adhesive residue on the surrounding surface.
