Portable Temperature-Controlled Cure Systems for Composite Repair

A hot bonder is a portable electronic controller that manages the cure cycle for composite structural repairs in the field — precisely controlling temperature via heating blankets and maintaining vacuum pressure throughout the cure. The controller monitors multiple thermocouples simultaneously, activates audible alarms for out-of-tolerance conditions, and records the cure cycle for quality documentation. Hot bonders replace the autoclave or oven for on-aircraft, in-hangar, and remote site repairs where moving the structure to a permanent cure facility is impractical or impossible.

01
Prepare the Repair
Damage is removed, the area is scarfed or sanded to profile, and replacement composite plies or pre-preg patches are laid up with appropriate materials.
02
Apply Vacuum Bag
A complete vacuum bag assembly is built over the patch — peel ply, bleeder, breather, and a silicone heating blanket are placed, then sealed with sealant tape.
03
Connect & Program
Thermocouples are attached to the repair and connected to the hot bonder. The cure cycle — ramp rate, dwell temperature, dwell time — is programmed into the controller.
04
Cure & Document
The hot bonder controls temperature and vacuum automatically throughout the cure, generates audible alarms for any out-of-tolerance condition, and prints the cure record.

HB-1 Composite Repair System
"The industry's smallest, most powerful and economical hot bonder for curing composite repairs."
At just 3.5 pounds, the WichiTech HB-1 is the most compact full-featured hot bonder on the market — small enough to hold in one hand, powerful enough to tackle any repair that a larger, more expensive unit can handle. This handheld unit performs equally well from the workbench to the tightest confined spaces and the highest places on the aircraft, delivering full hot bonder functionality where larger units simply cannot go. The HB-1 ships ready to work with its own standard vacuum line and heating blanket — all it needs is a vacuum source, either shop air with a venturi attachment or a WichiTech Portable Vacuum Pump. Four active thermocouple inputs provide complete cure zone monitoring with the same fail-safe audible alarm and safety systems found on much larger and more expensive systems. What sets the HB-1 apart from all other compact bonders is its network capability: multiple HB-1 units can be seamlessly interconnected to support extra-large or very complex repairs that exceed the capacity of a single zone — scaling from a single unit on a small skin repair to a networked array for a large structural patch.

The smallest full-featured hot bonder in the industry. Goes anywhere — tight confined spaces, elevated positions, remote field sites.
Networkable — Scale to Any Repair
Interconnect multiple HB-1 units for extra-large or complex repairs, without the cost of a dual-zone system for jobs that only occasionally require expanded coverage.
Full Safety System
Four active thermocouple inputs with audible alarms for temperature and vacuum out-of-tolerance conditions — the same protection as much larger units.
Explosion Proof Version
Certified for NEC Class I, Division 1 hazardous environments — fuel tanks, hangars with active fuel, and other restricted areas.

HB-2 Composite Repair System
"The world's hottest hot bonder."
The most powerful portable composite repair system WichiTech makes — the HB-2 is individually manufactured to your specifications, giving you exactly the configuration your program demands. At 35 pounds, the HB-2 travels in a rugged, impact-resistant suitcase-style enclosure with all components shock-mounted inside for years of reliable field service. Programming is straightforward: menu-driven from the keypad or from a pre-set library, as simple to operate as a microwave with its easy-to-read digital display and menu-listed functions. The HB-2 scales from a single-zone unit (one heating zone, one vacuum zone) all the way to a dual-zone unit with two completely independent programmed heating zones at 20 amps each and two individual adjustable vacuum zones — allowing two separate, independently-programmed cure cycles to run simultaneously on the same controller. Fail-safe protection is provided by monitoring of multiple thermocouples; audible alarms guard against temperature and vacuum conditions that could compromise the repair. A paper printout of the cure program is produced at the start of every cure. A revised printout is automatically generated if the program is modified mid-cure. The HB-2 also supports 400 Hz / 115V aircraft power (APU or engine-generated) in its Explosion Proof variant, making it a truly portable system capable of being powered directly from the aircraft — a first in the industry.

Key Features
Dual Independent Zones — 20A Each
Two completely separate heating and vacuum zones run simultaneously on one unit. Two repairs at once. Two cure cycles programmed independently — never one controlling the other.
Simple as a Microwave
Menu-driven programming with pre-set library. The digital display is easy to read in field conditions and every function is listed — no training courses required to run a cure.
Automatic Cure Documentation
Prints the full cure program at start. Prints again automatically if any mid-cure program modification is made. Quality record is built into every cure.
APU / Aircraft Power Ready
The Explosion Proof variant runs on 400 Hz / 115V generated by the aircraft engine or APU — a true on-aircraft hot bonder with no ground power required.
Mid-Cure Edit & Lockout
Programs can be edited during a cure without stopping the process. Lockout mode prevents unauthorized modification once a program is locked for production use.
HB-2 Available Configurations
HB-2 Single Zone
One independent heating zone and one vacuum zone. Full HB-2 power and documentation in a single-repair configuration. The most economical HB-2 entry point.
Single Zone
HB-2 Dual Zone
Two fully independent heating zones (20A each) with two separate vacuum zones — two simultaneously programmable and independently running cure cycles on one unit.
