One yarn over 3 others. Improved drape and smooth surface. Widely used for complex curved structures.

Pure fused silica (quartz) woven fabric — the premier reinforcement for aerospace radomes where RF transparency, dimensional stability, and structural integrity must coexist. Quartz fiber offers an extremely low dielectric constant (ε ≈ 3.78) and near-zero dielectric loss tangent — virtually invisible to radar and microwave frequencies, outperforming both E-glass and S-2 Glass®. An exceptionally low CTE of 0.54 × 10⁻⁶/°C ensures dimensional stability through the extreme thermal cycling of aerospace and space service. Capable of continuous service to 1050°C (1920°F). Available in plain, twill, and satin weave styles; custom preform shapes for structural radome shells available on request from Hexcel Specialty Reinforcements.

Woven fabric from Nextel 312 continuous aluminoborosilicate ceramic fiber — the standard aerospace ceramic textile for flame barriers, thermal shielding, and burn-through protection. Continuous use temperature to 1200°C (2192°F). Flexible and lightweight even after prolonged high-temperature exposure, unlike glass or quartz which become brittle. Used for engine firewalls, aircraft thermal blankets, wiring harness insulation, gaskets, seals, and spacecraft micrometeorite debris shields. Resistant to thermal shock, chemical attack, and dimensional change at operating temperature.

Woven fabric from Nextel 440 aluminoborosilicate ceramic fiber — higher alumina content than Nextel 312, delivering improved strength retention at elevated temperatures. Continuous use to 1300°C (2372°F). Used for rocket motor insulation blankets, investment casting mold reinforcement, and demanding high-temperature seals and curtains. Lower shrinkage at temperature than Nextel 312.
